Following a very successful Bumblebee identification course in Greenwich Park last week, the Bumblebee Conservation Trust are running another FREE course on Friday 17 April at the Blackheath CTC (Holly House Cadet Training Centre) on Blackheath, near Eliot Pits.

The Course is FREE to attend and lasts for five hours from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm.  Please bring a packed lunch.  Tea and coffee provided.

The programme is as follows:

-10:30am: Introduction to the three types of bee, their ecology, behaviour and life cycle. Then discuss which bee species are in decline, the reasons why, and how we can help through gardening

-Tea break

-Introduction to bumblebee anatomy, and the differences between males and females

-Lunch break

-Introduction to the big seven common bumblebee species

-View bumblebee specimens

-Tea break

-Update on B.E.E project, and info about BeeWalk scheme

-2pm: Walk around Blackheath site with nets and pots to catch and ID bumblebees – set up new BeeWalk
