There’s a wonderful opportunity to peer into some fabulous local gardens on June 14-15, and raise funds for the Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice at the same time. For a donation, you can visit many of the most beautiful gardens in Greenwich, Blackheath, Eltham and Charlton. Some of the garden owners are offering refreshments like elderflower drinks and cake, and some will also be selling plants.
It’s a great way to sharpen your own skills, by seeing what amazing things can be achieved with the same sort of conditions you may have in your garden. And there’s a wide variety on offer, from food growing sites, like the Prior Street Allotments in Greenwich and the Maryon Wilson Community Food Growing Area, to sophisticated designs for domestic herbaceous plantings. Although none are in Westcombe Park itself, all are within easy reach.
The Hospice’s website has the full list here.
Just to clarify:
Admission to the gardens is by ticket–obtainable at any one of the gardens listed, when you make your first visit.
The price for visiting one garden is £3 or a £10 ticket will take you into as many of the gardens as you want to visit over the two days.
Both Eltham and West Greenwich are opening their gardens Saturday 14th and Sunday whilst Charlton and the Cator Estate, Blackheath are only open on Sunday 15th 2-5 pm on both days.
You will see that not every garden is offering refreshments–though at least two are doing Pimms–and we ask for a donation for refreshments.
Look forward to seeing you next weekend
