Please find below important information regarding upcoming southbound closures of the Blackwall Tunnel.
Due to a clash with roadworks on the M25 the southbound closures of the Blackwall Tunnel scheduled for 16-18 March with NOT happen but instead the southbound tunnel will be closed 23-25 March as well as 13-15 April which means that southbound traffic will have to use alternative routes on those dates. Closures will start at 00:01 on the Saturday morning, with the tunnel re-opened by 05:00 on Monday morning at the latest. The works are needed to complete the new road layout, as part of Silvertown Tunnel construction.
Across the weekends TfL are asking drivers to:
Plan their routes in advance, check before they travel and consider any potential restrictions on alternative routes, such as height and weight restrictions at Rotherhithe Tunnel or Tower Bridge.
- Note that other crossings, including the Woolwich Ferry, are likely to be busier than usual due to the closures and queuing is likely.
- Use third party apps such as Waze to plan their journey.
- HGV drivers are asked to consider routes away from central London.
- And for bus customers, the 108-bus route will be split in two, with customers advised to change onto the Jubilee Line to cross the river to complete their journeys. Refunds for the tube part of the journey are available if required.
TfL thank drivers and customers for their continued patience as they edge closer to the opening of the new Silvertown Tunnel in 2025.
